Oma Jeane Jackson Dixon, 86, died on Thursday, January 3, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of chronic lung disease exacerbated by Influenza Type A. The family wishes to extend their thanks and heart felt gratitude to the members of the EIRMC staff that made this difficult time much easier by their kindness, care and compassion for all family members involved.
Oma Jeane was born on April 6, 1926, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Ernest Leonard Jackson and Veva Catherine Brown Jackson, the second of five children. Oma Jeane spent her youth growing up in the New Sweden area of Idaho Falls and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Oma Jeane graduated from the Idaho Falls High School in 1944 where her interests were centered on writing poetry, short stories and art.
Oma Jeane married the love of her life, Harold John Dixon, on July, 29, 1944, in Butte, Montana. They made their home in the New Sweden area of Idaho Falls where Harold was a very successful farmer and rancher and Oma was Harold's inspiration, the queen of his castle, devoted wife, lifelong partner and his best farm hand. Oma and Harold gave life to two wonderful daughters, Carole Joan Dixon on May 12, 1945 and Helen Louise Dixon on July 2, 1946.
Oma Jeane was involved in the New Sweden Parent Teacher Association and well as the New Sweden Pioneer Association. Oma Jeane was also a supporter of the Elks Lodge, the Museum of Idaho, the National Alzheimer's Association and was a docent at the Tautphaus Park Zoo. Oma Jeane also loved to sew doll clothes for children, costumes for kids for Halloween, and was an avid bridge player for many years. Oma Jeane also supported several activities at the First Presbyterian Church in Idaho Falls, such as the Brownie Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H for girls and teaching cooking, canning, crocheting, knitting, embroidery and gardening. Oma Jeane was also an avid reader of mystery novels and travelled extensively in Europe with family members. After Harold's death in 1986, Oma Jeane was a devoted volunteer for a variety of social and political support groups providing a great service to the eastern Idaho citizens and various volunteer organizations, such as the National Alzheimer's Association. Oma Jeane also worked at the Idaho House of Representatives for a legislative session as a volunteer and she was an ardent supporter of the Republican Party. Oma Jeane was well known as a care giver. She assisted her parents as well as Harold's parents as they grew older and also provided constant in home care for Harold during his battle with Alzheimer's disease. Oma Jeane was loved and admired by all she met and her smile and laugh were contagious. She was a leader in her community and was the matriarch of the Jackson family. She is, and always will be, greatly missed by us all.
Oma Jeane is survived by two sisters, Kathryn Louise Jackson Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Vonda Marie Jackson (Dan) Tibbitts of Carmel, California, and a brother Ernest Leonard (Bud) Jackson, Jr. of Idaho Falls, Idaho; two daughters, Carole Joan (Lewis) Rounds and Helen Louise (Randy) Eggers, both of Idaho Falls and six grandchildren, Lewis Harold (Barbara) Rounds of Juniper, Florida, Timothy Charles (Addy) Rounds, Ginger Ann (Bill) Rounds and Nadine Kay Wertz, all of Idaho Falls, and Jason Lee (Janel) Wertz, of Fort Worth, Texas. Oma Jeane is also loved and adored by eleven great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
Oma Jeane was preceded in death by her parents, husband and lifelong companion Harold Dixon, brother George W. Jackson, brother- in-law Max Johnson, and sister-in-laws Donna Jackson and Pauline Jackson. Oma Jeane has requested that her body be cremated and her remains accompany her beloved Harold's remains at the Dixon Ranch on the Long Valley Road at a date in the future yet to be determined.
The family of Oma Jeane's would like to invite family and friends in honoring Oma Jeane's life on Monday, January 7, 2013, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 455 W. Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Wounded Warrior fund at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org in memory of Harold Dixon's service in the U. S Army during World War II. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls. Condolences may be sent on line to www.buckmillerhann.com.
