Opal Burt

Opal was born May 16, 1922 in St. George, Utah the daughter of Thomas Irving Isom and Eugenia Walker McAllister. She grew up in Hurricane, UT and attended Dixie College in St. George and Utah State University in Logan where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in education. She taught home economics in Utah, Nevada and California. In Idaho she worked as a Health Physicist at INEL. She was married to John Irvine Burt December 26, 1947 in the St. George, Utah L.D.S. temple. They made their home in Boulder City, Nevada, Los Angeles, CA, Berkeley, CA and Idaho Falls, ID. Opal was a loving and generous mother who was an example of kindness, intelligence and humor for her children. She was always available for comfort and advice. She was an excellent cook and seamstress who shared her talents with her children. She was preceded in death by her husband and her son John Irving Burt. She is survived by her daughters Caroline Burt Campbell of Idaho Falls, ID and Catherine Burt of Sunnyvale, CA and her sister Dolores Isom Olds of Salt Lake City, UT and her brother Lowell Hinton Isom of Salt Lake City, UT. Funereal services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, with Bishop's Counselor, Tyre Barrott, officiating. Burial will follow at the Lost River Cemetery in Moore. A viewing for family and friends will be held on hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the funeral home.Opal Burt, 89 of Idaho Falls died peacefully in her sleep Thursday, July 7, 2011.
