Patricia Z. Young

February 23, 1948 — November 18, 2014

Patricia Ethel Zaladonis Young, loving wife, adoring mother, nurturing grandmother, doting sister and caring aunt passed away peacefully in her sleep at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center on November 18 at the age of 66. She was born in Oxnard, California to Lawrence and Maxine Zaladonis on February 23, 1948. She graduated from Saint Mary's Academy in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin in 1966. After high school Pat began her studies to become a nun in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Although her love and devotion to the Catholic Church was strong, becoming a nun was not to be her calling in life. She later returned to Idaho and attended Sacred Heart Hospital Nursing School and became an LPN. Once graduated she started her nursing career in Idaho Falls, where she truly enjoyed helping people. After much badgering and coaxing Pat agreed to a blind date with Frank Young, a local farmer that would steal her heart. On May 25, 1973 Pat married Frank at Holy Rosary Church in Idaho Falls, after he finished milking the cows of course. They settled down in Shelley on the family farm where they started their family. After having four rambunctious boys, Pat made her dream a reality and adopted a baby girl. Being so busy with raising her children and managing the farm, Pat put her nursing career aside. Pat's greatest passion was her family and would recount many of her endless stories about them. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She was very selfless, nurturing and constantly put others needs before her own. As a member of the Catholic Church, Pat enjoyed attending mass and participating in church activities. She loved to read books and could often be found completing crossword puzzles and writing letters to family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and sharing recipes. Growing up, Pat enjoyed visiting family on the Oregon coast and traveling to places such as Europe. Pat was very friendly, loved to meet new people and was always quick to make new friends. Pat is survived by her husband of 41 years, Frank Young and her father, Lawrence Zaladonis. She is also survived by her sons Paul (Kimberly) Young, Matthew (Julie) Young, Jeffery (Laurel) Young, Kevin (Rachel) Young her daughter Angela (Christopher) Cook, and five grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Joyce (Dick) Felter, and her brothers Edward (Cheryl) Zaladonis, Michael (Abbigail) Zaladonis and Robert (Rachel) Zaladonis. She was preceded in death by her mother Maxine Zaladonis and grand daughter Carolyn Young. A Funeral Mass for Pat will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, corner of 9th and Lee in Idaho Falls, with Father Raul Covarrubias celebrant. Burial will follow in Shelley Cemetery. A rosary will be held from 6:00- 7:00 p.m. Monday with a viewing to follow from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls.
