Patrick Jay Kinney
Born on August 31, 1954. He passed on August 25, 2023, just shy of 69 years old, from complications after a valiant battle with cancer.
Brother to Dennis Kinney (Laurie), Michelle Carlson (Larry) and Kevin Kinney (Judy), Pat was born in Nampa Idaho. He was the third child of Dwaine and Helen Kinney (deceased) and attended schools in the Meridian School District. He enjoyed sports and outdoor activities as a child. In his teenage years, he would spend hours washing, polishing, and cruising around in his blue 1970 Ford Torino GT which developed his passion for nice cars.
He married Karen Harris Anderson in Boise Idaho on February 25, 1978, and immediately became a father of two young boys, James and Brian. Together they had 4 more boys, Andrew, Matthew, Bradley, and Nathan.
He spent his life working hard to provide for his family. He began working in the trucking industry at a young age and spent several years and many miles on both long haul and regional routes. He spent many years working in road construction and put more miles on an asphalt roller than some drive in their life. He always took great pride in his work, even taking his family to the various work sites to show them how nice it looked.
Pat lived with his family in Boise Idaho until 1987 when they moved for a short time to Mackay Idaho and then relocated to Idaho Falls where he spent the rest of his years.
In Idaho Falls, he worked at the Idaho Falls Country Club as the Assistant Superintendent. After several years in this field, the allure of heavy machinery called him back to the highly skilled task of driving haul trucks the size of houses. He spent the remainder of his career working in specialized material mines in Challis Idaho and Wells Nevada. He retired in 2020 to spend more time with his family.
Pat was a dedicated father of 6 boys, grandfather of 16 and great grandfather of 4. He loved spending time with his children and especially loved holding and doting over the babies. He also enjoyed following and supporting his kids and grandkids with their various sports and activities.
He loved to golf and was an avid hunter, fisherman and general outdoorsman. He loved boating, camping, and riding 4-wheelers. As much as he loved to go hunting, it was just as much fun for him to be visiting around the campfire with his kids and grandkids.
Pat had a fun sense of humor. He would often show his affections through teasing, chiding and general verbal banter with all that knew him. He loved to bring laughter to those he tormented and tickled and anyone that knew him would say his laugh was contagious.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Kinney, 6 sons - James Anderson (Alecia), Brian Anderson (Michele), Andrew Kinney, Matthew Kinney (Misty), Bradley Kinney, Nathan Kinney (Billie), 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 brothers and his sister.
Please join his family in celebrating the Man, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend that we all got the opportunity to know and love. We are gathering on October 5, 2023 at The Waterfront Event Center from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. We look forward to hearing and sharing stories and memories of his life.
