Peter "Pete" John Jahner, 86 of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died March 12th, 2012 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center from natural causes.
Pete was born November 12, 1925 in Bismarck, North Dakota to Helen and John Jahner. After high school, he served in World War II where he received a Purple Heart, a Combat Infantryman Badge, and a Bronze Star. After returning to North Dakota, Pete worked as a photographer for the Army Corps of Engineers where he met his future wife, Vonna Wait. Vonna and Peter were married on June 8th 1957 in Riverdale, ND. They moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho where Pete worked as a technician at EG&G until he retired in 1986.
Pete enjoyed gardening, reading, photography, making homemade granola and chasing cats out of his yard. He especially enjoyed fishing for trout in Idaho and walleye in North Dakota. He was a member of the Christ the King Catholic church and the local VFW.
Pete is survived by son, Paul (Anita) Jahner of Meridian, Idaho; daughter, Jennifer Jahner of West Richland, Washington; grandsons Maxwell Jahner of Boise, Idaho, and Evan Jahner of Meridian, Idaho; and sister Gladys (Roger) Daub of Center, North Dakota. Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Vonna, sister Jeanie Woodworth, and parents Helen and John Jahner.
A graveside service will be held at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise, at 11:00 am Friday, March 16th, 2012. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donation be given to the VFW.
