Phylinda M Simpkins

July 23, 1918 — October 4, 2012

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, Phylinda Marie Simpkins, passed from this life into the loving arms of our Savior on October 4, 2012. Phylin was born in Chester, UT, on July 23, 1918, the second of Jessie Simmons and Susan Christensen Simmons nine children. She attended schools and lived her youth and young adult life in Sanpete County where she married Oscar Shepherd and gave birth to three sons and four daughters. Phylin and her family moved to southern Idaho about 1949. She later divorced and went to work in the potato warehouses in Shelley, ID, to support her family.
Phylin married John Simpkins on May 29, 1954, and they settled in Idaho Falls, ID. They became parents of a daughter and a son.
Phylin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mom enjoyed the beauties of nature and spending time with her children and grandchildren on our numerous family fishing trips. She took pleasure in baking mouthwatering treats that her children and grandchildren looked forward to with anticipation. She loved to dress in beautiful, colorful dresses and have her hair styled weekly. She was truly the "butterfly" in our family.
Phylin is survived by sons, McCoy Shepherd of Ontario, Oregon, Buddy (Kathy) Shepherd of Iona, ID, and Steven Simpkins of Idaho Falls, ID; daughters, Karen Sue Baccus and Carma Gallup of Idaho Falls, ID, Sondra (Leo) Gaitan of Independence, OR, and Terri (Jeff) Wright of West Valley City, UT; and a sister, Sherril Rigby of Mt. Pleasant, UT. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, her daughter Bonnie Petersen and son Gary Shepherd. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Boyd, Keith, DeVerl, and Francis Simmons, and sisters, Ometta Dyches Swensen, and Donnetta Blackburn.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2012 at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, with Bishop Scott Earl of the Woodruff 2nd Ward officiating. A viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
