Pierre Mikael Savkranz, 51 of Rigby died Thursday, August 30, 2012 in Rigby. He was born April 16, 1961, in Gothenburg, Sweden the son of Bertil Savkranz and Karin Lindberg Savkranz Fry. He moved from Sweden with his family at the age of four to Rigby. He attended schools in Rigby graduating from Idaho Falls High School in 1979. During high school Pierre received his pilots license. After graduating high school he married Wendy Boltz in 1981 in Idaho Falls. Pierre worked at Western Foods for many years until attending Treasure Valley College to work on his Commercial Pilots License. After attending Treasure Valley College, Pierre started working for the INL where he worked for several years while farming a 100-acres in the Milo area. It was during this time Pierre was in an auto accident paralyzing him from the neck down. After the auto accident and despite his paralysis Pierre continued to farm and ranch. Later he developed a section of the farm establishing Pierre Savkranz Development and General Contractors. He is also owner of Skandia Properties of America, Inc. Pierre was the founder and director of AdvoCare for Paralysis, a nonprofit organization to help those with paralysis and similar diseases. Pierre loved hunting, camping, fishing, dirt-biking , snowmobiling, talking to everyone that would listen, farming but most especially, he loved spending time with his girls telling stories.
Survivors include his two daughters, Kym (Tyler) Hendricks of Ammon and Nikole Savkranz of Rigby; his mother, Karin Fry of Rigby; a sister LaRena (Mark) Vorderbruggen of Sparks, Nevada; a step-brother, Randy Fry of Washington; and Wendy Savkranz of Rigby. He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, a step-brother Robbie and his father-in-law, Walt Boltz.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, on the corner of Sunnyside and Rollandet in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Larry Cudmore, officiating. Burial will follow at the Ucon Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E 17th Street in Idaho Falls and at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday. The family suggest the donations be given to the Memorial Fund for Pierre Savkranz and may be left or sent to any branch of the Bank of Idaho.
