Ralph Alden Oakley, 96, passed away on September 7, 2020 in Idaho Falls. Born in Nicholson, Pa. on August 5, 1924. Ralph met Charlotte Cairns, the love of his life, at his brother's wedding and he knew she was the one. They got married January 31, 1942 and had 66 happy years of marriage until Charlotte passed away in 2008. Ralph was a World War II veteran. He served from 1944 to 1946. Ralph and Charlotte had four children before they moved their family to Ukiah, California. They raised and showed Arabian horses for nearly 40 years and he was president of the Golden Gate Arabian Horse Assn. He was a charter member of the Mendocino County Sherriff's Posse where he rescued people on horseback. He was a member of the American Legion for 17 years and served as Commander of his post for two terms. Ralph was also with the Boy Scouts for 12 years. Ralph and Charlotte sold their horses and retired in 1987 and began traveling in their fifth wheel.
Ralph is survived by his four children, Russell, Lynn, Keith, and Charlene, as well as 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held in Ukiah, California where he will be buried with his wife, Charlotte. A family viewing will be held in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
