Auburn "Ray" Orr
December 12, 1939 - August 19, 2012
Our dad died on August 19, 2012 due to complications from Parkinson's disease while recuperating at the Bridgeview Estates from a fall he had at his house. He was 72 years old. Dad was born on December 12, 1939 in Oshkosh Nebraska to Auburn Jay "Duck" Orr and Ella Etta (White) Orr. If dad had lived to celebrate his 73rd birthday this year, it would have been on 12/12/12. The family, including my dad's younger brother, Alvin Lee "Red" Orr all moved from Nebraska to Twin Falls, Idaho in 1951. Our dad graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1958. Dad was a veteran who served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Dad worked several jobs throughout his life time. He was a cook at the Town and Country Drive Inn; a grocer for Shelby's Market; and a delivery driver for H & M distributing. Dad worked as long as his body let him and retired from H&M when he was sixty-six years old. Dad enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, camping and being outdoors. He always had a great time with his cousin, Dale Ford, at Dale's cabin at Magic. Dad's face would light up when his grandchildren and his great-grand children would come to visit him. Dad loved to tell stories and often you would have to decide how much was fact and how much was fiction. Dad especially enjoyed his exercise group with the Silver Sneakers. It was the social highlight of his week. Dad was baptized at the Twin Falls Church of the Nazarene on March 7, 2010. Dad enjoyed attending church and all the friends he made at church. Dad had accepted Jesus Christ as his savior which was comforting to his family in their time of sorrow. Our dad never met a stranger. He would start up conversations with anyone. Because of that, dad made many friends throughout his life time. He will be greatly missed by all.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother, and his infant son, Donald Orr. Surviving dad are his three daughters and their families: Carol (Tim) Ganguet and their children, Ashley (Joe) Hettermann and great-granddaughter, Ainsley, Erin (Jared) Christensen and great-granddaughter, Cali and great-grandson, Kade; Debbie (Delbert) Sturm and their children Daniel and Dana; and Janet (Bob) Allen and their children Zachary and Hannah. Dad is also survived by two nephews, Jimmy and Dale Orr and one niece, Sandy Peacock and their families. Dale Ford and his family also survive our dad along with many other relatives from the Orr, Ford and White families.
We want to thank the many people at Bridgeview, who cared for our dad in his final days. We also owe a great debt of gratitude to Dale and MarRene Ford and their family for helping us through the last four weeks and keeping watch over Dad when we couldn't be in Twin Falls. In lieu of flowers we would suggest donations to the Parkinson's Action Network www.parkinsonsaction.org or to the Twin Falls YMCA for their Silver Sneaker group.
Memorial Services will be at the Twin Falls Church of the Nazarene located 1231 Washington Street N. at 2:00 p.m. on September 1, 2012. Reception to follow at Dale and MarRae Ford's home, 524 Alturas North, Twin Falls Idaho. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of director Lance Cox and the staff at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park".
