Condolences may be made to Raymond's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com.
Ray was born in Antlers, OK on March 20, 1929. His parents decided to migrate towards California looking for work. Stopping in Idaho, Dad met Betty Wren and swept her off to California with him. They had five children; Sherry, Crystal, Ron, Cindy and Robert.
Dad was a roofer and specialized in wood shakes and shingles. He did all the fancy work, like the "wave". He loved to tell us about working on Shirley Temple's house and how nice she was, even making him lunch.
Dad and mom moved back to Idaho in 1979. They built a house on Mann's Creek and then 10 years later built one in Fruitland.
Dad had a pioneer spirit and loved the outdoors. Hunting, horns and fishing was his great passions. Dad taught all his children about camping, hunting and fishing every summer at the Yuba River or Catfish Camp. He was a very wise and caring man. If you had a problem you could always go to him for advice. Dad helped many a friend, family member and neighbor. He will be greatly missed by all.
Ray is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Cross; two daughters, Sherry Gardner and Crystal Ide; two sons, Ron Cross and Robert Cross; a sister, Joyce McDonald; brother, Ken Cross; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arlis and Roberta Cross; brother, Floyd Cross; two sisters, Lois Sparks and Beadie Bridges; and a daughter, Cindy Applegarth.
Goodbye Dad. We love you!
