Rhoda M. Jacky

Rhoda was born May 15, 1932, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Harry and Lois Rhodes. She was the eldest and only daughter, with two younger brothers, Ralph and Roy. In 1948, she married Robert R. Jacky, also of Twin Falls. Together they had four children, Bill, Curt, Suzan, and Ann, and resided in Jerome County. They were later divorced. In January 1955, Rhoda began work as an operator with Mountain Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company in Twin Falls and years later, transferred with the company to Pocatello. After 37 years as an operator, she retired from U.S. West in November 1992. Rhoda remained in Pocatello until 2006, at which time she moved back to Twin Falls. After she retired, Rhoda became an avid outdoorswoman and truly seized the most from each day. She could typically be found atop a snowmobile or four-wheeler zipping through the mountains - often, with one or more grandchildren in tow. She was passionate about local history, and was thrilled by searching the hills for arrowheads, square nails, old bottles, or any other relics from years gone by. She loved to laugh and make others laugh, which she did frequently, sometimes until she cried, paralyzed in a fit of giggles. This was infectious. Rhoda will be remembered for her quirky, self-deprecating sense of humor, which she maintained throughout life. She will be remembered for her strength and graciousness. She will be remembered for the adventures she took us on and the stories she told. She will be remembered with love. Rhoda is survived by three of her children and their spouses, Bill (Becky) Jacky, Suzan (Wes) Vance, and Ann (Chuck) Schabacker; nine grandchildren, Gage, Wendy, Janet, Brian, DeAnna, Rob, Matt, Katie, and Gabrielle; as well as five great-grandchildren, Mathew, Joshua, Jaylynn, Shelby, and Elizabeth. She is survived by her younger brothers, Ralph and Roy Rhodes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lois Rhodes, and her son, Curtis Jacky. A celebration of Rhoda's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at White Mortuary, 136 4th Ave. East, Twin Falls.
