Richard Donald "Rick" Ihler Jr.

April 29, 1954 — April 10, 2010

Richard (Rick) Donald Ihler, Jr, 55, of Filer, Idaho passed away
Saturday, April 10, 2010, at home surrounded by family,
following a year long battle with cancer. Rick was born to
Richard Donald Ihler, Sr. and Janet Marie Ihler, on April 29,
1954. Originally from Escondido, California, Rick graduated
from Orange Glen Senior High School in 1972, where he
focused his studies on architectural drafting. Following
graduation, Rick moved with his family to Filer, Idaho, to live
and work on the family farm and continue his studies in
computers and computer software at the College of Southern
Idaho (CSI). Richard, Sr., Rick, and brother Terry, as Holly Farms, were the
first Certified Organic farm in the state of Idaho. They raised sheep,
carrots, and various other organic commodities. Beside farming,
another passion of Rick's was developing and participating in
local Markets. At various times, Rick was a vendor at the Twin
Falls, Buhl, and Hailey Farmers Markets. Rick, his son Cody,
and his partner Kathy coordinated and participated, along with
numerous other local producers, in a Community Supported Agriculture,
(CSA) Project delivering locally grown produce and food products to
participating members of the Sawtooth Botanical Garden.
Rick also served as an Organic Inspector for the Idaho State
Department of Agriculture. To develop his other skills, Rick broke away from farming,
to pursue an apprenticeship with Triumph Metalworks,
working and finishing his apprenticeship until that business
closed. Returning to the family farm, Rick hung out his own
shingle, with longtime friend and partner, Michael Gore.
Together they started an upscale metal fabrication
business called: "The Metallurgists" producing functional
art and grand staircases among other unique items such
as security gates and balconies for high end private
residences in the Ketchum/Sun Valley areas. Their work
also included projects for CSI and local private homes
in the Twin Falls area. Rick is survived by his partner in life and loving wife,
Rebecca, father Richard Ihler (Elaine), brother Terry Ihler
(Nancy), son Cody Ihler, daughter Misty Brooks and two
grandchildren, Shelby and Sage Brooks. Rick is also
survived by his nephews, Jeremy and Andy Ihler (Sarah),
and numerous cousins, especially Darla Chappell (Tom),
and Ron Hammons (Nancy). Rick was proceeded in
death by his mother Janet Ihler. Rick was an optimist and an open minded individual who
felt deeply about his family, church and his spiritual beliefs.
Rick was a member of the Life Church of the Magic Valley.
He was a dedicated and devoted father to his children, and
friend to any in need. He enjoyed archery with his friend, Kever. Golfing with his daughter,
Misty and son Cody, brother Terry, his buddies Mike and Melvin, and
with his wife Rebecca (on a good day). He also liked building
model airplanes, hunting, dirt bike riding, and fishing. Rick
was a member of the Magic Valley Fly Fisherman's Club. Grateful thanks to all the friends and family, including Kathy,
Jeffery, Pastor Kevin, Mary, Grant Kelley, and Guardian
Hospice Services. He was loved by all he met. He will be missed, but never
forgotten. A Memorial service for Richard will be held at 11:00 a.m.
