Robert "Bob" Bauchman died in Las Vegas, NV on January 6, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Idaho Falls on May 14, 1920, the first of 3 children born to Walter and Marie Donahue Bauchman. He attended Holy Rosary elementary school, OE Bell Jr. High and Idaho Falls High School. He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1942 and attended graduate school at the University of California in Berkeley, California after serving as a lieutenant in the US Navy during World War II. He married, Alice Amann, in Washington DC in June 1946 and later moved back to Idaho Falls in 1947 to take over his father's business, the Idaho Falls Electric Company.
He started Bonneville Construction Company installing telephone and power lines throughout the US, Caribbean and Pacific Islands. He was also the president and a founding partner establishing Upper Valley Cable TV/Cable One in Idaho Falls in the 1960's. He was president of the Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce and the Electrical Contractors Association. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Order of the Holy Sepulchre.
Bob was an accomplished musician in the high school band and orchestra as well as the University of Notre Dame band. He was one of first members of the Idaho Falls Symphony when it was organized.
Bob loved Idaho and had many, lifelong friends with whom he enjoyed fishing and hunting. After returning to Idaho to raise his family, Bob acquired a cabin in Mack's Inn, Idaho where he and his family spent major part of their free time.
He leaves behind an unusually large number of really good friends and one large, loving family who will honor his memory for years to come.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Bauchman of Las Vegas, NV; four sons, John (Patricia) Bauchman of Big Sky, MT, Robert (Maureen) Bauchman, Jr. of Vero Beach, FL, and James (Susan) Bauchman of Las Vegas, NV; Steve (Lyndella) Bauchman of Challis, ID; three daughters, Dianne (Jack) Robison of Pocatello, ID, Nancy (Bob Koehler) Bauchman of Kirkland, WA, and Mary Alice (Scott) Nielson of Las Vegas, NV; fifteen grandchildren, Laurie delaSalle, Julie Elmo, Robert J. Bauchman, Christopher Bauchman, Stephen Bauchman, Kristina Henn, Brian Bauchman, Julie Bauchman, Alicia Webster, Geoffrey Bauchman, Michael Bauchman, Thomas Robison, Alysia Nielson, Nicholas Nielson and Caroline Nielson; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Walter "Bud" Bauchman, a sister Ann Marie Mitchell and grandchild Michael Robison.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, at the corner of 9th and Lee in Idaho Falls, with Father Raul Covarrubias, celebrant. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls with Military Rites are under the direction of the Bonneville Veterans Team. A rosary for friends and family will be recited from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a viewing form 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Buck funeral Home 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be given to Holy Rosary School or the Little Chapel in the Pines, P.O. box 274 Mack's Inn, ID 83433.
