Robert Darwin Kaestner, 69, of Idaho Falls, ID, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on August 26, 1945 to Darwin and Ruth Kaestner. He graduated from Fox Point High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Valparaiso University, IN. He was married to Jane Mueller on August 5, 1967 in Kingsport, TN. Robert (Bob) worked for Westinghouse in both Pittsburgh, PA and Idaho Falls, ID at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory and Bechtel. Bob retired in 2003 from the Naval Reactor Facility and kept busy volunteering for CASA, the Idaho Falls Community Food Bank, FISH, the Museum of Idaho, and tutoring. Perhaps his favorite place to spend time was the Tautphaus Park Zoo where he served as a docent, helping wherever he was needed. He loved to take school groups as well as family and friends on private tours where he knew something about every animal there. He was also very active in his church where he served as a lay minister, confirmation counselor, and call committee member. One could also find him fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening, cooking, traveling, playing computer games, and having a martini on the rocks with two olives every day at 4:00pm. He was a child of God. Bob is survived by his wife Jane Kaestner, daughter Alison Kaestner, and daughter Stephanie Winston and her husband Kevin. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, April 20th, 2015 at 11:00am at First Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 455 W Sunnyside Rd. Idaho Falls, ID 83404. In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to CASA- District VII, the Tautphaus Park Zoo, or First Evangelical Lutheran Church Missions. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.buckmillerhann.com.
