FILER • Robert Rolland Parent, 59, of Filer, Idaho, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls due to complications from a fall.
Bob was born in Warren, Minn., on Sept. 27, 1955, to parents Rolland and Ida Parent. His early childhood days were spent on the baseball fields of Argyle, Minn. In the fall of 1968, Bob's family moved to Graceville, Minn. He attended Graceville High School and graduated in 1973. He then continued his education at Moorhead State University in Moorhead, Minn., and received his degree in education and social work.
Bob married Jeanne Simonson and became the proud father of Dusty and Tyson. In the summer of 1977, Bob, Jeanne and Dusty moved to Filer, Idaho, where he began his teaching career. Eventually, Bob and Jeanne parted ways. In 1984, Bob met Susan Bess. They later married in 1988 at Lake Tahoe, Nev. Both worked in the Filer School District, where Bob enhanced the minds of many children in both education and athletics for 34 years. During this time, Bob also worked as the recreation director for the Filer Recreation Department. Many hours were spent at the park getting fields ready, coaching and umpiring games. Many times you would hear kids telling the others, "That's Bob, you know, the guy that owns the park." Bob continued to serve his community by being a member of the city council. He felt his greatest accomplishment as a councilman was the new wastewater treatment plant that Filer built.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He called himself, "A Jack of all Trades and a Master of None!" He loved baseball, skiing, biking, kayaking, golfing, hunting and anything else that had to do with the outdoors. In his retirement, Bob was often found working in his "Broken Wing Bicycle Shop" at his home. When not working on bikes, you would often find him on the golf course with his friends or at home reading a book with Roofus, his minion. Bob loved music, but most of all loved singing loudly and creating lyrics for the words he did not know.
In his lifetime, Bob provided many services to his community, but his greatest love was his family. He thought being a father was the greatest gift he was given until he received the gift of being called Bob-Bob (Grandpa Bob). He will be sadly missed by his family: Susan of Filer; Dusty, Stacy and grandson, Grant of Challis, Idaho; Tyson and grandchildren, Jaquia, Tyse and Suzie of Filer; his dog, Roofus; brothers and sisters, John, Phil, Anne, Cathy and Shelly.
As long as Bob has the love of each of you, he can live his life in the hearts of all of you.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 20, in the Filer City Park. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park."
