Robert Burton "Bob" Rainsdon

IDAHO FALLS - Robert Burton Rainsdon 76, of Hamer passed away Thursday July 12, 2012 at the Life Care Assisted Living Center. Robert was born on July 20,1935 in the Idaho Falls LDS Hospital. The son of Burton Thomas and Thelma Elizabeth Rainsdon. Bob attended schools in Goshen and Firth, graduating from Firth High School. He attended college in Logan Utah and was a member of the R.O.T.C.

Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a Deacon, Teacher, Priest and Elder. He was active in the scouting program and served as assistant scoutmaster and scoutmaster. He was an Eagle Scout, has his bronze, silver, gold palm and achieved his Silver Explorer. He attended Wood Badge at Coeur d' Alene and Treasure Mountain Camp. At the age of 15 Bob had the opportunity of attending the World Jamboree held in Valley Forge.

His high school years were spent playing football, basketball and the FFA program. Bob won an Aryshire calf at the Eastern Idaho State Fair in 1952 by writing an essay. The following year he won blue ribbons with the calf.

Bob married the love of his life, Jenice Miller, on April 17, 1954 in Shelley, Idaho. They were blessed with two children, Robert Allen and Patricia Ann. Bob and Jenice celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2004.

Bob farmed with his dad in Goshen, Springfield and on the Blackfoot Indian Reservation. Along with farming Bob worked as a carpenter for Deloy Yergenson and Jack Day. Bob also worked in the spud warehouse and for Berkley Larsen feeding cows. Bob and Jenice lived in Monteview, Terreton, and Hamer, farming and raising cattle.

Bob loved his family and they spent a lot of time fishing and camping together. He also enjoyed shooting trap with his family. He took pride in everything he did and enjoyed watching the garden grow, making improvments to their home and yard, watching the birds and BBQ's with the family.

He was a skilled carpenter and did beautiful leather work and chip carving. He was a heavy equipment operator for Washington Construction and worked on the rebuild of the Island Park Dam. He helped with the construction of a gold mine on the California Nevada border and built the bridges for the second phase of I-15 between Hamer and Dubois. He helped build the lunchroom at West Jefferson and the Catholic Church in Terreton.

Bob is survived by his wife Jenice of Hamer, a son Allen Rainsdon of Dubois and a daughter Patty Whitaker of Hamer. Four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 17, 2012 at the Hamer LDS Church, with Bishop Robert Ball officiating. A viewing will be held from 7 - 8:30 Monday July 16, 2012 at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
