Rockie R. Egner

Rockie R. Egner passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning, June 16, 2013 at his home in Filer. Rockie was born May 10, 1936 at his grandparent's home in Filer, Idaho. He lived with his parents in Filer for several years and then they moved to Hawthorne, Nevada and from there the family moved to San Francisco. After graduating from St. Ignatius he attended Notre Dame University. Following his graduation from Notre Dame he returned to San Francisco where he met the love of his life, Barbara Mann. After they were married they remained in the San Francisco area where they raised their children. He was very active with Little League baseball and umpired many games. Rockie worked as a welder with Boilermakers Local #549. He and his wife moved back to Filer where he started his own welding business, raising buffalo and became very active in the Filer community. He and Barbara became involved with the Foster Care Program and have cared for about 35 children in their home for various lengths of time, some of whom still come to visit. They adopted 3 of the children. Rockie truly loved the children they cared for. His wife Barbara passed away in February 2012 and her passing took a tremendous toll on his life. They had been married for 54 years. He will be greatly missed by his children and his grandchildren, friends and all who knew him. Rockie is survived by his two sons, Rick (Julie) Egner and Randy Egner; two daughters, Kimberley (Bernie) Cruz Marks and Laura Egner; as well as the three adopted children, Irene Egner, Paul Egner, and Ryan Egner. His grandchildren, Zachary Cruz, Michael (Emma) Egner, Amanda (Jason) VanLeeuwen, Megan (Robert) Tapley, Emily Cruz, Daniel (Cherylyn) Egner, Bryson Marks, Allison Cruz, Carson Marks and April Summer; his great grandchildren, Alicia, Arimiah and Dareyan Egner; Madison and Colton VanLeeuwen; and Kaiden, Blake and Bentley Tapley; one sister, Pat Gross; his aunt Bette (Hubert) Hendrix; his sister-in-laws, Diana (N.T.) Henley and Mary Louise (William) Stein; as well as several cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Scott Allen Egner; son-in-law, Philip M. Cruz and his parents. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013 at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 161 6th Ave. East, Twin Falls with Fr. Marcos Sanchez celebrating. Burial will follow at the Filer Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will take place from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening June 20, 2013 at White Mortuary, 136 4th Ave. East, Twin Falls followed by a Rosary Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at White Mortuary. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given in Rockie's name to the Make a Wish Foundation. Contributions may be given to funeral chapel staff or mailed to White Mortuary, 136 4th Ave. East, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301.
