Sharon Marie Irons

September 10, 1931 — December 23, 2017

Sharon Marie Irons, a longtime resident of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away on December 23, 2017 at her home. She was born in Ogden, Utah , September 9, 1931 to Gerald Eugene Burns and Lucy Sargeant. Sharon graduated from Ogden High School and then attended St. Mary's College, affiliated with Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana. She married William Irons. Together they had three children. They lived in various places, including South Dakota, Alaska and Idaho. They later divorced.
Sharon graduated from Boise State University and taught at Sacred Heart School in Boise.
She later moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where she taught English at Bonneville Junior High School. She also taught 4th grade at Cloverdale Elementary School. Idaho History was one of the subjects, so she traveled the Lewis and Clark trail, the Nez Perce Trail, and went to many other historical sites. She retired in 1989, having enriched and touched the lives of many students.
Sharon enjoyed growing flowers and she loved to travel. She experienced fierce winds and thick fogs in the Orkney Islands north of Scotland and ferried across the Pentland Firth. She rang a bell at York Minster Cathedral in York, England. She experienced the Irish mists, the Panama torrents and an earthquake- proof theater in Costa Rica. She enjoyed many cabins and castles in the USA and abroad.
Sharon was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and was passionate about reading, traveling, gardening. She would often volunteer at the Bonneville County Museum. She was also a member of Daughters Of the Utah Pioneers, and the Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers Robert and Frances Burns.
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Messinger of Medford, Oregon, two sons, Thomas Irons of Santa Clara, California, Robert Irons of Boise, Idaho, daughter-in-law Anita Irons of Caldwell, Idaho, two grandsons, and one great-grandson.
A visitation will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 10 am at Buck-Miller-Hann funeral home. A Funeral service will follow at Buck-Miller- Hann funeral home Saturday, December, 30, 2017 at 11 am.
