Sheila June Godfrey was born on an unusually warm day in Edmonton London England. This beautiful baby girl greeted her mother, May Godfrey and her father, Charles Godfrey with a huge smile on February 3, 1935. Sheila joined ten other siblings that day that included Billy, Johnny, Ronnie, Eric, Dougie, Nelly, Flo, Doreen, Queenie and Thelma. At a later date, Sheila was introduced to the last addition to this wonderful family, her little sister, Pauline.
In her teens, Sheila worked as an usherette at a local theater and by chance, it was that job that brought her and Max Clayton Vanderpool together. At the time Max was serving his country in the Air Force and was stationed in England. One day he decided to spend his time off visiting London. Max was window shopping when Sheila "bumped" into him. This led to Sheila becoming the third girl in her family to marry a US military man on October 3, 1953.
Sheila and Max traveled the world while he was in the Air Force. She was able to see Germany, France, and of course the United States, but her favorite place was still England. In California on September 4, 1956, Sheila gave birth to a bouncing baby boy that they named Clayton after his father and Charles after her father. A few years later her daughter Mary Alice was born on June 2, 1958 and her last child, Sidney Amos was born on July 23, 1962.
In 1972 Max retired from the Air Force and settled just outside Jerome, Idaho where Sheila enjoyed life as a housewife and making delicious treats for friends and family. As the years went by, Sheila watched with a huge smile as her children one by one married and gave her grand kids for her to spoil. Clayton gave her two, a boy and a girl Clayton and Teresa. Mary gave her three boys, Christopher, Jacob and Cody. Finally Sidney gave her Michael. Sheila was not out of love yet and was so excited to go from a grandma to a great grandma when Christopher gave her the first great grandchild, Austin and later Tyeler, Paige, Shelby and Hunter. Teresa was not far behind with Jaden, Jorden, Gabriel and Gweneth.
Sheila's last few years were filled with love as she was slowly taken from us by dementia. While recovering at Bridgeview she was always there for the music night and even would still kick up her feet and dance with her son Sidney. She then adjusted well to her new home at Heritage, met lots of new friends, and had some great new adventures.
On April 30, 2014 with her daughter Mary, Son Sidney and daughter-inlaw Paige by her side, the Lord took Sheila quietly to be with her mother and father and all but two of her twelve siblings.
Sheila is preceded in death by her mother, father, four bothers and four sisters.
Sheila is survived by her husband Max Vanderpool, children Clayton (Joan) Vanderpool, Mary (Mike) Thompson, Sidney (Paige) Vanderpool, grand children Chris (Paula) Thompson, Cody Thompson, Jake Thompson, Teresa (Travis) Berkley, Clayton (Mallory) Vanderpool, Michael Vanderpool, her great grand children Austin, Tyeler, Paige, Shelby, Hunter, Jaden, Jorden, Gabriel, Gweneth as well as her brother, William Godfrey and her sisters Thelma Etherington and Pauline Hill.
