Shirley Ruth Rathman Frear, 85, of Caldwell, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 of natural causes at her residence. Shirley was born July 8, 1928 at Lebanon, Oregon, the only child of Darwin and Ruth Marie Osborn Rathman. She attended Queen Anne Grade School and graduated from eighth grade at Sandridge. She graduated from Halsey High School in 1946. Shirley worked a year for the Agriculture Adjustment Association in the Linn County Court House in Albany before attending Modesto Junior College. Shirley worked for Malheur Home Telephone after moving to Ontario with her parents. She married Jim Frear September 18, 1949 in Payette, Idaho. They moved to Boise in January of 1950 where she ran a billing machine for the State of Idaho while they built a small home with help from their family. Jim's job with Morrison-Merrill took them back to Payette in 1955 where they lived when their daughters were born. They moved to Twin FAlls in 1958 and back to Boise in 1963. They built another home in Boise somewhat larger than the first. They moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1977 with Boise Cascade where Jim was an area manager. They returned to Boise in 1979 before moving to Payette in 1981 when Jim took early retirement. Shirley enjoyed being a 4-H leader and member of Les Bois Questers while living in Boise. In Payette, she enjoyed square dancing with Silverleaf, line dancing with Golden Boot Scooters and other activities at Payette Seniors and Newcomers. She enjoyed gardening; sewing for her family and the many trips she and Jim took in the west and to the mid-west. Shirely was preceded in death by Jim, her husband of 45 years. Shirley is survived by her two daughters and their families, Rebecca (Steve) Snow of Caldwell and Nancy (Bob) Sharp of Newberg, Oregon. She has three precious grandchildren, Laura Snow (Gary) Brennan of Nampa, Jamie and Micah Sharp of Newberg, Oregon, and one great-grandson Karson Brennan of Nampa. She is also survived by her campanion and caregiver for the last few years, Nash Garcia. A memorial service will he held on Friday, April 25, 2014, 1:00PM at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. A private family graveside service will he held at Hilltop Memorial Cemetery. Donations in Shirley's name can be made to the Payette Senior Center, 137 N. Main Street, Payette, Idaho 83661.
