Steven Miles DeFrance

March 18, 1973 — October 22, 2015

Steven M. DeFrance was born in Caldwell, Idaho on March 18, 1973 and passed away peacefully on October 22, 2015 at St Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise, Idaho after a UTV accident near Price Valley, Idaho. Steve grew up in Payette and graduated from Payette High School in 1991. In 1998, he married Jaime Larsen and together they had 3 boys: Bradly, Morgan and Zachary. Later, Steve married Ashley Thompson and he was blessed instantly with another son, Connor, and together they had Deton. His love for the daycare kids also led him to his love Sara Lee and her three wonderful children Kiani, Kawika "Wiki" and Lahela. He was a true outdoorsman, or as Steve would say, a "Mountain Man." Steve loved his dogs, hunting and most of all, his kids. Whether they were his, ours, yours, theirs, a kid from down the street, or who the heck knows who they belonged to, Steve loved them all. Steve would even go to daycare just to visit the kids because he missed them all so much. Steve was known for his hounds. You could find him in the mountains with all of his kids treeing bears. He would love to see the entire party making it to the tree where he would then call out "Whoooo Dog" to celebrate the victory. If he wasn't chasing bears, cats, or coons, he was cutting wood. On our last trip to the mountains we asked him if he would rather hunt elk or trees. He quickly responded with, "Good Wood! It's a guarantee that you will always tag out."
Steve worked at Les Schwab for the past 20 years and had many side jobs over the years to support his hunting habits. Steve was well known in the community as the go to guy when anyone needed help, no matter what it was. He was also known for his nicknames and his pranks and most of all his witty humor. On his last trip to the mountains, he spent the weekend doing what he loved most: hunting, cooking his famous tacos, loving on everyone's kids, relaxing at Zims and searching out the good wood. He spent 2 days cutting his favorite tree, the Red Fir. Steve was preceded in death by his second son Morgan and his Grandma Nell. He is survived by his sons Bradly, Zachary, Wiki, Connor, Deton and his favorite girls Kiani, Lahela, Taylor and Kelsey, as well as many friends and family members. Steve was loved by all and will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, family has an account set up at Malheur Federal Credit Union or you can give to your favorite charity. A Celebration of Steve's Life will be held at 2pm on Friday, October 30th at the Ontario Elks Lodge. Per Steve's wishes he will be cremated and spread in the mountains with his son Morgan. Cremation is under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Condolences may be made to Steve's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com.
