Susan Wallber Ring, died at home September 28, after living with Progressive Subnuclear Palsy (PSP) for the past several years. Susan grew up in Idaho Falls where she rode with the Junior Mounted Posse. At Idaho Falls High School, she played in the orchestra and graduated in 1965. She graduated from the College of Great Falls Montana in 1969 and George Mason University, in Fairfax Virginia, in 1976. She taught High School English and later was part of a unique vocational educational program where students refurbished cars and sold them (she had a used car dealer's license). Susan never lost her love of horses and enjoyed foxhunting in the hills of Virginia on her hunter-jumper, PT Barnum. In 1990, Susan married fellow educator Jeff Ring. They spent the following 13 summers traveling all over the U.S. and Canada, from Newfoundland to California to Alaska. Upon retirement, much to her father's surprise, they built a home near him in Idaho Falls. Susan was extremely active in the community: she served on the Board of First Book (which provides low-income children with their ‘first book'); and was a member of Rotary, Weavers Guild, New Comers Club, Bonneville Democrats, Idaho Falls Gem and Mineral Society, Eagle Rock ATV as well as several book clubs (her favorite quote is by Thomas Jefferson: "I cannot live without books"). She was a patron of the arts and supported numerous charities and organizations such as Breaking Boundaries, ARTI, Idaho Falls Museum, Arts Council, Symphony, Art Museum, Food Bank and Animal Shelters, just to name a few local ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Betty Wallber and is survived by her husband, Jeff Ring, two step-children: Colleen and Keven Ring, and four siblings: Christine Dinsmore (Tom), Josara Wallber (Ray Grosshans), Mike Wallber, Amy Colandrea (Greg). She loved her four step-grandchildren and eight nephews/nieces very much and actively participated in their lives. Susan was a model of integrity and courage and will live in our hearts always. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. In leu of flowers, you can support Susan's love of books and helping others by making a contribution to First Book at any Westmark Credit Union in Susan Ring's name.
