Thomas Alton Moon

November 8, 1921 — December 21, 2012

Thomas Alton Moon, 91, of Payette, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at home in Payette. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 27th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. A viewing will be from noon to 2 p.m. prior to services. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Payette. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Condolences may be made to Tom's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. Tom was born Nov. 8, 1921 in Cherry Creek, ID to Archie E. Moon and Ester Morse Moon, the eighth of ten children; Elaine, Cleve, Juanita, Genevieve, Leo, Samuel, Lynn, Marjorie, and Afton. The Moon family moved to the Aberdeen, ID area where Tom graduated from high school. Tom went into the Army Air Corps at the age of 20 in Jan. 1942 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After basic he went to school for maintenance of B-17's then on to other bombers; B-24, B-29, B-47, and B-52. Tom was the man to show Gen. Jimmy Doolittle the first B-29 and flew it with him. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On July 14, 1945 he married Sarah Frances Allison. Sarah had two sons at the time, Bill and Jack. Bill stayed with his paternal grandparents and Tom raised Jack (Gay) as his son. Tom and Sarah had three daughters, Sarah Diana, Margaret Elaine (Lyle), and Teresa Kim (deceased). He was endowed and sealed to Sarah in 1985. He retired from the Air Force in 1963. Tom worked for American Potato until 1964 then went to work at the State Hospital until 1984 when he retired. Tom and Sarah had 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Sarah passed away on July 19, 1984. He now has 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He married Mauvia Ann Marley on April 11, 1987. She had four children at that time also. He was sealed to Mauvia in 1988. In 2004, Tom and Mauvia moved to Payette.
