Tom Haga

November 4, 1932 — May 13, 2018

Tom (Tsutomu) Haga passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2018 at the age of 85. He was born on November 4, 1932 in Ucon, Idaho to Seigi and Iyo Haga. He graduated from Ucon High School. He is a Nisei, second generation Japanese American. He worked on the family farm in Ucon until it was sold and then continued farm work for Frank Yamasaki. During this time, he met Alice K Irwin and they were later wed on November 10, 1958 in Ontario, Oregon because interracial marriages were not allowed in the state of Idaho at that time. He went to work for HK Contractors in 1963 as truck driver until he was forced to retire in 1993 due to the loss of most of his eye sight. Tom loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting as well as bowling. Later in life he could be found at one of the local diners Saturday morning having coffee and swapping fishing stories with his buddies. Tom was preceded in death by three sisters, Ida, Kochee, Asako (Amy) and two brothers Takeo and Hitoshi. He is survived by his wife, Alice, by sons, Steven (Lesley), Brian, and a daughter Andrea; grandchildren, Ashton, Sydney, Danielle (Jake) Buehner, Mikayla (Brian) Wilder, Jessica Klukis, Joshua Klukis and great grandchildren Hadlee, Ethan, Tate, Jax and Ridger. A viewing will be held at Buck Miller Hann Funeral Home Friday, May 18, 2018 from 11 am - 12 pm. Funeral services will follow the viewing.
