Velma Marie (Shepard) Frazier passed away June 19, 2015 at her home in Payette due to complications of COPD. A viewing for family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 24th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 25th at Riverside Cemetery, Payette with pastoral support provided by Pastor Duane Vaughn. She was born April 6, 1928 to Henry B. and Lucille A. Shepard in Payette. She was a 1947 graduate from Payette High School and married Robert O. Frazier July 25, 1947. Together they raised five children on a small farm on Washoe Road where she lived until her death.
Velma was a hard worker on the farm and was very active in the community. She worked in the fruit packing sheds in the fall and later at Champion Home Builders in Weiser. She enjoyed canning, gardening, sewing and teaching her family to do the same. She was Treasurer at the First Baptist Church in Payette for 20 years. She was a 4-H leader, an adult assistant for Jobs Daughters and is Past President of the Ontario Emblem Club No. 192. She loved to have fun with her family and friends. Following her husband's death, Velma developed a love for NASCAR and her favorite driver Jimmie Johnson. She watched every race with her good friend and partner, Joe Gillette.
She was an amazing Grandma who opened her arms to 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren who all were welcome and loved at Grandma's house. She had many friends and family all over the Treasure Valley. She will be missed by many.
She is preceded in death by her twin sister Thelma in 1946, father Henry in 1982, mother Lucille in 1998, husband Robert of 52 years in 1999, great grandson William Lovelace in 2001, grandson Daniel J. Robinson in 2009, and sister Ruth A. (Delaney) Vernon in 2014.
She is survived by her children, Robert M. (Carmen) Frazier of San Diego, California, Barbara M. (Mike) Reberg of Soldotna, Alaska, Lois L. (Russell) Payne of Payette, Idaho, Janet E. (Jim) McDermott of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Mary J. (Ron) Lemke of Nampa, Idaho; her grandchildren Jennifer Dawn, Ben, Kristie, Hilori, Joseph, Stephanie, Amy, Jamie, Toby, Bridget, Trisha, Suzie, Ericka, Vanessa, Destinie, Tyler and April; and her sister Dona Fae Battaglia of White Fish, Montana.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Heart & Home Hospice Care who cared for Velma, especially Trina.
