He was born in the Payette Hospital on Jan. 31, 1923, the son Boyd and Cecile (Dixon) Swanson.
Verne is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beulah "Bea"; seven children, Lynn (Rich) Morishita, Joel (Sherry) Swanson, Suzie (David) Anderson, Tim (Lynne) Swanson, Cindy (Dave) Willis, Penny (Marc) Christopher, Amy (Kevin) Burton; 14 grandchildren, Matt (Colleen) and Rob Morishita, Jeff (Robin), Chris (Marie) and Ben Swanson, Jacob (Lauren) Anderson, Nic and Hailey Swanson, Jennifer and Edmund (Jess) Willis, Megan and Kelsey Christopher, Ali and Calvin Burton; four great grandchildren; and a brother, Sterling (Melba) Swanson. Verne loved babies. If there was a baby in the room, it would be in his arms. Apart from the war years, Verne spent his entire life in Payette. After several years of working for others, he started his own construction business, building many custom homes as well as commercial buildings. After his retirement he and Bea traveled throughout the West. Verne was a man of many interests and talents. He always had a wood-carving project. His love of the outdoors was passed on to his children through skiing, camping, fishing, and hunting. His great love was hiking in the Owyhee Desert enjoying any open space or mountain top and the birds that inhabited it. Memorials may be made to a favorite conservation fund, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
