Virginia Lee Shelton

January 31, 1915 — January 24, 2014

Virginia Shelton, 98, of Payette, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at a local care facility in Payette. A visitation was held Monday, Jan. 27th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Interment will be Thursday, Jan. 30th at 11 a.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Road in Whittier, CA. Local arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Virginia was born Jan. 31, 1915 in Mesa, AZ to Alexander Reaves and Mary Catherine (Evans) Bird. She married Robert Lee Shelton on Aug. 10, 1939 in Mesa. Virginia left this world to be with her Heavenly Father and family on Jan. 24, 2014, just seven days before her 99th birthday. She was born during World War I. Virginia lived through 18 Presidents and five Wars. Through her journey in this life she lived through these historical events: when a first class stamp was only two cents, Charles Lindbergh flew solo across the Atlantic, the Star Spangled Banner became the official National Anthem in 1931, Prohibition was repealed in 1933, the Dust Bowl of 1934, the Hindenburg tragedy of 1937, Amelia Earhart flew across the Atlantic and went missing in 1937, Orson Wells broadcast ~War of the Worlds~ in 1938, Germany invades Europe, the first McDonalds opens in Pasadena, CA in 1940, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima in 1945, Israel becomes a Nation in 1948, the Introduction of the Space Age with Sputnik I in 1957, the Civil Rights Movement begins in 1958, President John F. Kennedy is assassinated in 1963, the introduction of Medicare in 1966, Martin Luther King is slain in 1966, Senator Robert F. Kennedy is slain in 1968, man first walks on the moon in 1969, the first African American President was elected in 2008. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lee Shelton; her parents Alexander Reaves Bird and Mary Catherine Evans; three brothers Jess Bird, Keith Bird, and Daniel Earl Bird; one sister Ruby Boldorac. Surviving Virginia are three sons Robert Lee Shelton, Daniel Earl (Sharon) Shelton, and Gerald Wayne Shelton; eight grandchildren Rusty, Ginger, Dale and Michael, Kimberly Lynn, Justin, Ashley, and Danny; and one great grandchild Kira; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
