Virginia Rose Steinke

June 8, 1924 — April 23, 2014

Virginia Rose Keller Steinke, 89, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. She was born on June 8, 1924, to Frank and Anna Keller in the Riverdale New Sweden area. She attended Riverdale and Holy Rosary School, graduating from Shelley High School. She married Ewald "EJ" Steinke on June 9, 1947, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Idaho Falls. They farmed first in New Sweden and later in the Roberts area with a cattle ranch in Island Park. After EJ's retirement many winters were spent in a warmer area. Upon EJ's passing Virginia enjoyed many days with her sisters and brothers playing cards and fishing at her ranch in Island Park. Virginia was famous for her great raspberry patch jam that she enjoyed giving away, and her delicious homemade chocolate candies. She was a very active Catholic. Virginia loved to entertaining family and friends, and fishing at the ranch. Survivors include her son, Alan F. (Sheri) Steinke of Rigby; three grandsons, Jason (Bonnie) Steinke and Tyler Steinke, both of Idaho Falls, and Jesse (Jenny) Perkes of Millville, Utah; three granddaughters, Valerie (Cody) Kropp of Kimberly, Idaho, Kelsey (Brandon) Palmer of Idaho Falls, and Cody (Zane) Parkinson of Hyrum, Utah; and one sister, Joan Eckersell of Idaho Falls; and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewald "EJ" Steinke, a daughter, Sharine Steinke Perkes, her parents, brothers, Carl, Art, Earl and Richard Keller, her sisters, Dorothy Schureman, Janice Walstrom and Iola Granberg; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 145 9th Street in Idaho Falls, with Father Jose Ramirez, celebrant. A rosary will be held from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014, with a visitation for family and friends following from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., both at the church. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
