Warner Richard Pfaender of Idaho Falls passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living in Idaho Falls at the age of 86.
Warner was born in Portland, OR to the parents of Werner E. and Violet (Johnson) Pfaender on November 22, 1930 and was the youngest of three siblings. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Portland, OR Class of 1949 and then attended Oregon State University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology in 1953.
Upon Graduating he joined the US Airforce as a Second Lieutenant and attended Primary Pilot Training in Multi-Engine aircraft at Laughlin AFB, Texas. After retiring as a First Lieutenant in the Airforce he returned to Oregon to begin his career with the Agriculture Industry before moving to Idaho Falls in 1962.
In 1957 Warner married Janet (Gail) Hord and the couple raised 3 children.
Warner was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church Parish, Idaho Falls. He also a Mason for over 50 years, Pocatello Scottish Rite of Freemasonry SJ, El Korah Shriners, American Legion Post 56 where he participated in organizing the War Bonnet and volunteered at the Idaho Falls Museum. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, horseback riding, snow machining and Honorary Lifetime Member of the National Ski Patrol from 1951 thru 1992.
Warner is survived by his wife Gail of 60 years, son Chris (Jackie) Pfaender Columbia, MD and daughter Donna (Marty) Pettingill, Idaho Falls, ID.
Preceded in death by his parents, sisters Berniece Rickey, Shirley Haggert and daughter Kathleen Marie.
A celebration of Warner's life will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1690 E. 17th Street, Idaho Falls, ID. Lunch to follow at the church social hall.
