William McNeal (Bill) Laney, 80 of Idaho Falls passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012, at his home in Idaho Falls. He was born on July 17, 1931, in Troup, Texas, the son of Lonnie Hubert and Dessie Evelyn King Laney. After graduation from Troup High School he served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Bill then worked in various mechanical engineering positions for General Dynamics in Ft. Worth, Texas, Todd Shipyards in Galveston, Texas and INEL-Lockheed in Idaho Falls. He retired from Lockheed in 1992. While working full time and raising a family Bill obtained a BA in Physics from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas. He married Rubye Waller in 1950 and they had a son, Michael Douglas Laney and daughter, Beverly Anne Laney. They later divorced. In 1970 he married Joyce Woy and they have been residents of Idaho Falls since 1976. He was a member of the Sociables Club of Idaho Falls, Red Baron R/C Modelers Club and the Masonic Lodge of Troup, Texas. Bill enjoyed building R/C models, golfing, fishing and aviation.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce W. Laney of Idaho Falls; son, Michael D. Laney and wife Brenda of Owasso, Oklahoma; a daughter, Beverly A. Slayton and husband Craig of Ft. Worth, Texas; a sister, Jo Ann Dulany of Henderson, Texas; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.
At Bill's request, private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
