Wilma Kathleen Ackerman O'Dell

December 12, 1934 — October 17, 2016

Wilma Kathleen O'Dell was born Dec. 12, 1934 and passed away Oct 17, 2016 at home. She was the third child out of four born to Donald and Florence Ackerman of New Plymouth. She loved riding horses and spent a year as Payette County Rodeo Queen. She graduated from New Plymouth High School. Even though she graduated from TVCC with a degree to be a secretary, she spent her adult life cooking and baking at local restaurants and elsewhere. After her five children were grown she lived in many different locations helping care for grandchildren, other relatives and cooking. She lived in Moscow, John Day, Cascade, Shoshone, Palouse, and Kenai, Alaska before she settled for her retirement in Fruitland. Her most adventurous experiences included cooking at a sorority at Moscow and for guys on an offshore oil rig in Alaska. She had to be sedated to fly in a helicopter to that location.
In her retirement years at Fruitland she joined the Red Sequin Sassy Hatters and spent many years at the Payette pool. She also cooked breakfast at the Eagles Lodge and got an award for Woman of the Year 2006-2007. She loved her children and grandchildren and gave lots of advice whether it was heeded or not. Wilma is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Lois Ackerman and Donna York. She leaves behind her sister Frances Findley of New Plymouth; her five children Lois Hood of Boise, Kathy Wallen of Fruitland, Ron (Nancy) Cornett of Ontario, Terry (Sheri) Neeley of Fruitland, and Dennis (Rosa) Neeley of Ontario. Her grandchildren included Marcie (Troy) Bradley, Matt (Ramona) Inoyue, Amy (Brett) Veater, Shandy (Kevin) King, Mike (April) Cornett, Mindy (Karl) Shrum, Daniel Neeley, Blake Neeley, Zack Neeley, James Neeley, Alexis Martinez, Charles Gonzales and Junior Gonzales. She has 25 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. A special thanks goes to Wilma's daughter Kathy who lived with and took care of Wilma in her last years. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 29th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel in Payette. Cremation is under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel. Condolences may be made to Wilma's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com.
