Jack was born Feb. 17, 1921 in Payette, ID to Samuel Jackson Raby and Pansy (Allen) Raby. Jack grew up on the farm on Raby Lane in Payette. After graduating in 1939 from Payette High School, Jack joined the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII. While in the Navy he met and married Dorothy Wiley in California. After the war they returned to Payette, where Jack lived for the rest of his life. From this union they had 3 daughters, Sherill, Karen, and Robin. They later divorced. Jack met Ruth Wike at a dance in Boise. They then married on May 5, 1968. Jack worked at Marshall Fixture Co. for 30 yrs., he then worked in maintenance at Holy Rosary Hospital for 20 yrs. He was known for his woodworking, his dahlias and English walnuts that he shelled and sold. Jack was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. One of his hunting trips in 1968 landed him in the Boone and Crocket and the Idaho Mule Deer. Jack and Ruth rode many miles on their motorcycle with the Just For Fun Motorcycle Club with friends all over the country. Jack is survived by his wife Ruth Raby of 46 yrs., 3 daughters Sherill (Spike) Rhodes, Karen Laaksonen, and Robin Brown all of Payette, ID. Sisters Lillian Smith of Pocatello, ID, Beth Thomsen Boise, ID. Grandchildren: Bill Rhodes Owensboro, KY, Rashell LeBow Payette, ID, Troy Butler Meridian, ID, Toby Butler Boise, ID, Heather Laaksonen Payette, ID, Keefer Brown Weiser, ID. Great-grandchildren: Hadrian (Cindy) Rhodes, Wayne and Ema Rhodes, Courtney and Tanner Butler, Chandler, Mikhail and Sofie LeBow, Cohen and Sawyer Butler, Kalynne Brown. Great-great-granddaughters Talyne Anne and Tannyr Dawn Rhodes. Step-daughter Lila (Rich) Grafs, Step-granddaughter Sally (Tom) Gibson, Step-grandson Randy Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Sam Raby, sisters Pearl Gallegos, and Hazel Mogensen, step-daughter Sharon Nelson, step-children Marty and LaDonna Nelson. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 4pm to 7pm at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Funeral Services will be held Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 at 2pm at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Riverside Cemetery, Payette.
