She was born January 15, 1921 in Idaho Falls, ID to John Frederich and Katherine Elizabeth
Laubhan and was a lifetime resident of Idaho Falls and surrounding area. She lived in the Stanton area early in life before moving to Milo where her family farmed. She attended and
graduated from Ucon High School. Karolina worked at various office jobs throughout her lifetime, but her chief profession was
being a farmer's wife and a mother. On November 8, 1947 she married Horace T. Phillips (Harkey) in the United Methodist Church
in Idaho Falls. Harkey and Karolina farmed in the Roberts area for over 30 years. In 1969 they built a home in Coltman. Harkey died in 1982 and she continued to live in her home, in Coltman, until the fall of 2013 when she moved to Idaho Falls. She was a true farmer's wife and was Harkey's right hand man working in the fields alongside him. They enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, fishing, camping, traveling and were life long active members of the Idaho Falls Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 576. She was a lifetime member of the Auxiliary. She was a Past Auxiliary President of the local order and also a Past Idaho State Auxiliary President. She was an avid bridge player for over 70 years, playing with many local clubs. Harkey and Karolina enjoyed trailer traveling after retirement, spending the winter months going south where they made many new friends. They eventually bought a winter home in Overton, Nevada. After Harkey's death she continued to spend winter months at her home in Overton until
1992. She is survived by her children. Donna Koster (Jerry) of Idaho Falls and Douglas Phillips of Rigby, seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Karolina's youngest daughter, Karla Young, preceded her in death July 1, 2009. She was also proceeded in death by her brother Freddie Laubhan and her sister Freda Elg. Graveside services will be Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at New Sweden Cemetery. Family will greet friends at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, beginning at 9:30 a.m. before proceeding to the cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to the Idaho Youth Ranch, P.O. Box 8538, Boise, ID 83707 or to a favorite charity.Karolina Phillips passed away at her Idaho Falls home on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the age of 93.
