LeRoy was born May 7, 1926 to Lee and Mary Howard in the family in Magna, UT. Roy grew up in Magna, UT area spending his summers in the Burley and Delco, ID area working on cattle ranches. He was drafted into the Navy on his 18th birthday during WWII. While serving in the Navy, Roy met the love of his life Veda Speas. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 15, 1946 and have celebrated 68 years together. They were blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter, and a niece they loved and raised as their own. Roy and Veda moved to Fruitland in 1950 from Ola, ID to start a dairy farm where they still reside. Roy loved riding his 4-wheeler to check out the farm and loved observing the improvements made over his lifetime. His last over-see was three days before his passing. Roy was very active in the community during his life serving on the Payette County Fair and Rodeo Board, Fruitland School Board and the Fruitland Zoning Committee. Roy loved serving in many callings in the LDS Church. He served in such callings as the Bishopric, Young Men's President, Elder's Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, two Stake Missions, and in the Church athletic program as a participant and officiating. The highlight of his callings were the 12 years Roy and Veda served in the Boise Temple. Roy is survived by his wife Veda; children Robert (Audrey) of Pasco, WA, Barbara Kenison (Tom) of Alamosa, CO, David (Ruth) of Kuna, ID, Darlene Mecham (Steve) of Nibley, UT, and Kent (Teesy) of Fruitland; two sisters Beth Olson (George) of Clearfield, UT and Jane Toone of American Fork, UT; a brother Dan Howard (Grace) of Magna, UT; 26 grandchildren and 63 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Reed Toone. We will miss our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, but we look forward to our reunion with him some day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints General Missionary Fund, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, PO Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
