Lenyce Ann Ahlfs Zenk, Passed away quietly and peacefully in her home of natural causes with her loving family by her side, June 16th, 2017.
She was born September 2nd 1925 in Le Mars Iowa, to John H. Ahlfs and Verna Mandelkow Ahlfs. Lenyce embraced her education early on. She graduated from Le Mars High School in 1942 at age 16 with honors and promptly went on to graduate from Westmar College in 1948 with her B.A. in Business Education.
It was at Westmar College that she met her sweetheart Arnold E. Zenk and the two were married on June 4th, 1948 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa. The couple then moved to Castana, Iowa, where Lenyce continued to share her love of education, teaching business subjects until June of 1950. They soon moved to Greeley, Colorado where she continued to share her knowledge in business subjects.
In 1951 the couple made their way to Idaho. She continued to teach business subjects for 34 years and started a Cooperative Office program at Idaho Falls High School in 1965. She briefly moved to Swan Valley from 1957 to 1959. During that time they both worked for the US Forest Service.
She attended Utah State University in the summers of 1966-1968, graduating with an M.S. in Business Education.
During the summer months Lenyce enjoyed many outdoor activities. While serving as a lookout on Bald Mountain, she grew so fond of her summer's in Island Park that she began a second occupation in real estate. She was an associate broker for Island Park Realty. She later retired in 1987 and In 1996 Lenyce and Arnold purchased the brokerage and spent their summers living at their cabin on Henry's Lake Outlet Road off White Tail Lane. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and the "Little Church of the Pines" in Island park. She was also a member of the P.E.O. since 1962.
Her love for teaching children never faded. She was always instructing kids of right and wrong and her love for the outdoors and Island park will go on forever. She had been making plans to spend this summer in Island Park.
She will live on in the memories of all who knew her especially those she taught in school and those she had business relationships with.
She is survived by her son, Clair (Patty) Zenk, Her grandchildren, Kristin (Ryan) Shurtz of Shelley, ID, Brian (Lorie) Zenk of Idaho Falls ID, her great grand-daughters, Kadence F. Shurtz, Finley B. Zenk, Rylee E. Zenk and, a great grand-son Ryker Leo Shurtz.
A Visitation will be held in Lenyce's honor Tuesday June 20, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm at Buck Miller Hann funeral home in Idaho Falls.
Graveside services will be Wednesday June 21, 2017 at Rose Hill cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho at 10 am.
