Maxine Phyllis Niemeier, 93, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Friday, June 16, 2017.
Maxine was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on April 5, 1924 to Peter and Marie Niessen. She was raised in Twin Falls and attended Washington Grade School, Vera C. O'Leary Junior High, and Twin Falls High School. She was an officer of the Girl's League during her junior and senior years and a member of the Thespian Society. Following graduation from high school in 1942, she worked in Twin Falls for a year then moved to Idaho Falls and attended Groom Beauty School obtaining her beauty operator license in 1945. She worked as a beautician for several years in Idaho Falls and at her home for over 40 years for customers and friends.
She met Henry Niemeier at Walther League at St. John Lutheran Church in 1943. They were married June 9, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Twin Falls.
Maxine and Henry raised five children on a farm in Shelley. Maxine was a house wife, room mother and ardent supporter for all her children's sporting, musical, and school events. She was active in the Shelley PTA, a Bingham County Precinct Volunteer, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In later years, she worked for G&K Fashions for over 20 years as a sales associate.
Maxine was a member at St. John Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls for 74 years where she was active in the choir, Deborah Guild, Fellow Ship Club, Braille, and served on many committees.
She was a charter member of the Hi-Lo Pinnacle Club and a local bridge club for over 40 years. Maxine enjoyed traveling across the US and to Mexico and Hawaii with family and friends. She was an avid crafter and enjoyed ceramics, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and tole painting.
Maxine is survived by four children and their spouses, Theresa (Buddy) Walters of Colleyville, Texas, Paul of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Todd (Suzanne) of Marietta, Georgia, and Scott (Cindy) of Spokane, Washington and five grandchildren, Lindsay Scott (Jakob) and Ryan, Austin, Matthew, and Hunter Niemeier.
She was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Carla, husband Henry, eldest son Chris, her father Peter, her mother Marie, and her brother Harry.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 23rd, at St. John Lutheran Church, 290 Seventh Street in Idaho Falls, with Pastor David Schilling officiating. Burial will follow in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 East 17th Street, Idaho Falls.
